JacketPrinter

  • JacketPrinter is Free. Latest version is V0.162 Beta. It's been tested on XP SP2, 2000 and 98SE with no problems. The zip is under 100KB.

  • JacketPrinter is a simple program for printing CD front and Back covers, DVD covers, Labels and Directly to Printable discs.

  • There is one downside to it though, and that is that you need the .NET Redistributable (1.1), which is about a 20MB download. But you may already have it, MS recommends you go through 'Windows Update'. You can also try going here as well, for more information and links.

  • I'm thinking of adding my own fileselector to JacketPrinter, this would allow you have a look at a thumbnail of the cover before you entered it into JacketPrinter. Of course you can do this with the normal fileselector, by choosing 'Thumbnails' from the view menu, but I would probably make the Thumbnails a little bigger. Is anyone intrested in having this added? If so please Email Me

  • So what makes JacketPrinter different to the other cover printing programs out there? Not much really :), They all basically do the same thing, but I've added a few things that I wanted in a cover printing program.

  • Choose border Colour
  • Choose border width
  • Rotate a cover automatically - try and get correct long side
  • Print multiple copies with one click
  • Use to print onto Printable CD/DVD discs
  • Define your own cover size
  • Define margins
  • Run from a folder and save it settings to the same folder

  • What do you all think of the print quality? I can add some code which would allow you to change certain values when printing.

There is no help file, but you shouldn't need one,let me know if you need any help. As I've said JacketPrinter is a Beta program, so it may (Will) have bugs in it, but it shouldn't take down the whole PC, but be warned.

To run JacketPrinter just unzip it to a folder and run.
Left click on a cover to load a image in, try right clicking to see what options are available.

If you want to see what CD labels will look like, do a test print with 'CutLines' enabled, you will see a square border surrounding the label, this should allow you to calculate what settings you need to enter when using CD label paper (I don't use CD labels).

When in print preview, you should see a dotted purple line, this shows the printable area of your printer, if part of say a DVD cover is missing, print preview it and then alter the margin to see if that makes it right, if not, then check your cover size settings.

  • I have got some more ideas for JacketPrinter, but I'll keep them to myself at the moment, we programmers are a lazy bunch, and at the moment JacketPrinter does what I want, which was the main reason for writing it. If you have any ideas or problems then please use the 'Contact Us' link to email me. You may or may not get an answer, so don't be offended if you don't.

If you alter the size of the covers that you print, and would like to set the size back to the default, you can now right click and set cover to default size.

Changed the way a cover is loaded into JacketPrinter, the cover will not now be locked, which means you can delete it or open it in another app at the same time.

Did some more work on the copy and pasting functions and Drag and Drop. You can now finally drag a cover from IE and drop it into JacketPrinter, you can also drag a cover from a windows folder and drop into JacketPrinter. If for some reason you can't drag&drop you can copy from IE and paste into JacketPrinter.

Got the hole in the middle sorted out, so you can now use the Middle setting, which is the Diameter of the centre of the disc. Some discs have more printable areas than others, so you may have to experiment a little

Bought myself a new printer - Canon I865, this one can print directly to DVD and CDR. I suppose you could always have used the Print Label page, but I've added another tab, just for printing directly to the disc. The default settings work bang-on for my printer, so try them out first, before you alter any settings. A tip here, when you set the printer setting, turn Print Preview on, and you get a rough idea on how well the settings work.

The Middle setting is not live yet, still trying to work out how to implement it.

I must say the output is excellent, well worth the money.

Added a Donation link, don't worry the program will still be free.

Noticed sometimes that the image would be redrawn and the text tended to look better, tried to force this redraw, so that it does it automatically. Not sure if I've succeeded though :( This doesn't effect the printed output.

When drawing the outline, it now draws around the outside edge of the cover, rather han on the centre line of the cover. Shouldn't make much difference unless you use the thickest of lines.

Added Email link, trying to get Cut&paste to work, having major problems with it,so at the moment the 'paste' function doesn't work!
Altered how more than 1 copy is printed, made the printer do the work, hopefully this will make sending multiple copies to the printer faster.

Added Drag and Drop - only from desktop folders at the moment!

I hope you find JacketPrinter useful, and have some fun with it!
